The City of Scott City would like to formally announce and congratulate Interim Chief Larry Rutherford of the Police Department to his appointment and promotion to Chief of Police for the City of Scott City. During the council meeting held on December 21st, 2020, it was unanimously decided to promote Rutherford to Police Chief effectively immediately.
Rutherford has served with the City of Scott City since 2014. He began his career with the city as a Reserve Patrolman, but quickly moved into the Nuisance Officer Position and from then he served as Traffic Officer, until being promoted to a Sergeant. Upon the retirement of former Police Chief David Leeman, Rutherford was promoted to Lieutenant and then Captain. Since, the resignation of former Police Chief Michael Culler, Rutherford has been acting as the Interim-Police Chief.
The city is pleased to have Chief Larry Rutherford as the city’s new chief and are excited for the future of the Police Department of Scott City. It has been quite a year and a challenge for anyone serving in this field. The Mayor, council and I would like to thank everyone in the city’s Police Department and our First Responders for taking everything in stride and doing everything they can to continue to keep Scott City safe and a great community to reside in.
